# 6 Koh Samui/Thailand

August 13th, 2005, Koh Samui

Still here in this booth. Healing. Due to the little incident we delayed our onward journey and enjoyed some more quiet time at the beach. Sun, salt water and a lot of garlic in the curries we had, helped to keep the wound from infecting and made it heal quickly.

We moved to an even more basic hut which was closer to the water. Pretty much just a wooden triangle with mattresses in it. It was cheap and all we needed. The view was excellent!

We finally found the post office and went to a market where I bought a pretty wooden Buddha sculpture. Little did I know about this companion- for example that you were not allowed to “export” it. Learned this among other things later though…

Oh bliss! We were sticking to the simple life. The only thing I missed was chocolate. Apart from this I was quite content. You got to see interesting things, met new people. Everyone was relaxed. What an awesome decision it had been to go on this trip!

I couldn’t even recall what really got me here. We just kinda had this idea of travelling. To explore the world as carelessly as possible. So we went to a travel agency that offered these around-the-world-tickets. Set a route and booked it. Apart from some vaccinations, buying a solid backpack, hiking boots and a traveller’s guide to Thailand (which we then left at home) there wasn’t much preparation. Well. I packed some boxes of stuff and put them up some attic. And I made playlists for my iPod. And a scrapbook/journal. But that’s pretty much it.

As we just finished school there wasn’t much that kept us. Apart from our boyfriends…

Naaaaaaw… Didn’t you know? Of course I fell in love just a couple of weeks before I was jumping on that plane. What a silly idea that was! But I couldn’t help it. So yeah, with every pretty sunset came a little sting in my heart… And that hurt more than my knee. For sure!

Wise men say – Only fools rush in,
But I can’t help falling in love with you.
Shall I stay – Would it be a sin,
But I can’t help falling in love with you.
As the river flows
gently to the sea
Darling so we go
some things were meant to be
Take my hand – Take my whole life too,
But I can’t help falling in love with you. ((I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You – Elvis Presley/UB40)
